Charlie LoomisWinner of the 2015 Cast-Iron Cook Off, Chef Charlie Loomis returns this year hoping for another victory. Chef Loomis is the executive chef at FEED Table & Tavern, located in the historic Chattanooga’s Seed-Feed Supply Company. He previously was the chef at 1885 Grill, a southern coastal restaurant in St. Elmo.

He began his career in Washington D.C working his way up in the restaurant industry there. Through a relationship with a customer, who would soon open up an organic food grocery store chain called GreenLife, Loomis made a move to Asheville, North Carolina to assist in the specialty store’s launch. From there, Loomis was an integral part in the opening of GreenLife here in Chattanooga. “At first I thought I wasn’t ready to move, but after coming to visit Chattanooga I knew this is where I wanted to be,” he says.

After settling in Chattanooga, he returned back to the restaurant industry by becoming a chef at 1885 Grill upon its opening and remained there for the next two years. It was after that when he and owner/partner Miguel Morales decided to open the FEED Table & Tavern.

Chef Loomis is in no way new to the cooking competition scene. He has been featured as a  judge for a few Chattanooga Market competitions, such as the Five Star Food Fight. He has also competed in the World Food Championship, World Chef Challenge, and was on the winning 1885 Grill team during the Scenic City Wing competition, sweeping the People’s choice as well as the Judge’s choice votes. He says that he is especially excited about this year’s Cast Iron Cook Off because of the great competition he will be going up against.

The FEED Table & Tavern will be introducing their new Fall menu within the next three weeks. Chef Loomis will also be continuing to host patio parties each Saturday night beginning at 10pm. During the patio parties he comes out on the restaurants deck to cook out in front of patrons, where they can also enjoy live music. Some of examples of the food he cooks out on the deck are low country boils and roasted hog.
