Josh Carter, owner of St. Johns Restaurant and the Meeting Place, has opened Imbibe – an 8,000 square foot wine and liquor store that feels like a boutique. Drawing upon his expertise managing the wine and hospitality experience at St. Johns and Meeting Place, Carter has retained knowledgeable staff who are available to provide one-on-one consultative help, competitive pricing, and convenience to downtown, Southside, St. Elmo and Lookout Mountain.
Imbibe is also setting itself apart by focusing on wines and spirits that have never been offered in Chattanooga before—as well as unique, esoteric brands that have disappeared as area distributors streamline their offerings—side by side with value wines.
“Because of the relationships we have with importers and distributors, we are able to offer $10 wines that are amazing,” said Carter. “You don’t have to spend $50 to find a great bottle. But if you want to spend that for a special occasion, then you should be able to find wines that you could normally only find in bigger cities.”
The large and beautiful space, designed by Thomas Palmer of Cogent and constructed by Dillard Construction with carpentry by Matt Sears, includes a dramatic tasting bar at the door, 1500 wines, 1000 spirits, 20 taps on the Growler wall, 650 beers displayed, as well as a unique gift selection curated by local boutique Sophie’s.
